Is contstant change cheaper for corporate America?

Question:
I've re-entered corporate America after a long stint at mom and pops only. I see a new trend which is keeping change more of a contant than it normally would be. I see this as a tactic to keep people lean, mean, and never quite able to figure out what they should be complaining about....because it changes every month to three months.

Answer:
Change is inevitable in business. Products and markets are constantly evolving, and any company which does not keep up with such change will rather quickly go bankrupt. Consider Hewlett-Packard Company (where I worked for many years). Initially an instrument maker, it diversified into computers and calculators, and now makes most of its money on printers. Could any of this have been predicted, back when Bill and Dave were making audio oscillators?
